The Art History Major

The Art History Major requires 30 credits of upper-division coursework drawn from a variety of historical and geographic areas ranging from Ancient and Italian Renaissance to Modern and Non-Western art. The Fine Arts Major

The Fine Arts major requires 30 credits of coursework and allows students to draw from both art and muisc history courses, as well as art and studio music in crafting the specific concentration of their major. The History of Architecture Major

To fulfill the requirements of the Major in Architectural History, students must complete 30 credits of upper-division courses, 24 of which are courses in architectural history. 9 should be HOA courses, and 15 ARC courses. No credit for studio courses in art or music may be used for this major. Students may petition to have up to 9 credits of selected topics courses in architectural history (ARC or HOA) count toward the major. The Music History & Cultures Major

The major in Music History and Cultures is designed for students who wish to study music in its historical, social and cultural contexts and in relation to other arts. Although majors are encouraged to develop performance skills, the focus of the degree is on the study of musical cultures and styles in a liberal arts environment. The Art History Minor

The Minor in Art & Music Histories

The minor in Art and Music Histories requires 18 credits of coursework drawn from any combination of the department’s constitutive disciplines (histories of art, music, and architecture). For more on this minor’s specific requirements please see the Syracuse University course catalog.



The History of Architecture Minor

The History of Architecture Minor requires 18 credits of coursework drawn from upper-division courses in architectural history. 6 credits must be HOA courses taken at the Department of Art & Music Histories, and 9 must be ARC courses taken at the School of Architecture. The remaining 3 credits may be from any upper division HOA course. Students may petition to have up to 6 credits of selected topics couses in architectural history (ARC or HOA) count toward the minor.
